That error you're getting may not be real.
In recent times many programs pretending to be virus removal or system optimizer software are actually infections themselves. The purpose of these infections is to scare the user into providing credit card information to "buy" the software and "clean" the made up list of problems being displayed. Do not fall for this. If you start seeing warnings from a program you did not install, it may very well be a fraudulent claim to steal your identity.
Malicious software may be lurking on your computer.
Many downloaded installers including those for screen savers, communication software, possibly even useful utilities or Facebook applications may have other programs attached. Because these are not necessarily virii, several virus scanners may not detect them. These types of programs run in the background on your PC and use up valuable resources that your computer needs to run at top performance. This could cause your system to run slowly or become unstable. Not only that, but these programs often bombard the user with Pop-Up ads and other annoyances.
It may be time for a check-up!
